The parallel world WP is exploring, is inhabited by three main human descendant species. The Desertbreeds, consisting of several sub-groups, to which Cordula and Rayn belong. They are found in the continents, specially in the deserts, where they migrated and evolved, escaping from a past genetic disaster, that left a dismal short number of inhabitants. Their technology is very advanced, beyond ordinary human conceptual thinking, they are uninhibited and developed a strong reliance on mental powers.

Then there's the Islanders, whose domains are the seas and islands. They love nature and blending with it. Main reliance is on environment friendly low-tech, using high-tech only when strictly necessary.

The third group are the Fractalians. These went too far in pushing the envelope, and were responsible for the general genetic disaster. Their habitat is never clearly defined, for they live in a fractal limbo within a world.
They have strange constructions and can show up in both human and fractal shape. They are passionate and capable of creating sublime beauty. But their ambitions and lust can be very dangerous.

All three groups got united in developing The Portal. It was an extreme question of survival. Later on, problems rose once more. While the Desertbreeds have a tense tolerance for Fractalians and Islanders, these last two became sworn enemies.

WP woke up on the floor after a night's talk with Cordula. He was alone, the mysterious green light gone also. Sleep had been long, for WP realized it was late in the afternoon. That world's sun would be setting in a few krons.

As he walked out of what happened to be a Desertbreeds' vantage point, WP was about to have his first encounter with an Islander, who had sneaked through during the night in her small boat.

He would finally discover why his role would be so vital in this world.
